Dr. Jisung Oh | CEO and Board Member

Jisung is the CEO, cofounder and Board Member of PHYTunes. He started his career at Samsung Electronics as a Communications Systems Engineer and worked in multiple business divisions including digital TV, mobile handset, and telecommunication networks. He led mmWave core technology development for 5G cellular network as vice president of engineering and contributed to the launch of Verizon's 5G Home Internet using mmWave technology. He moved to the US in 2018 and joined ASSIA as vice president of wireless development in charge of cloud-based wireless network management. In December 2020, he co-founded PHYTunes with his Ph.D advisor, Prof. John Cioffi, and his colleagues from ASSIA and is introducing a wireless-wireline convergence technology that solves the indoor penetration problem of 5G and Wi-Fi. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in control and instrumentation engineering from Seoul National University and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

Dr. Akula Aneesh Reddy | Chief Scientist

Dr. Akula Aneesh Reddy is the cofounder and chief scientist at PHYTunes Inc. Dr. Reddy received his B. Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin all in Electrical Engineering. His research interests include modeling and performance evaluation; wireless and sensor networks; architectures and algorithms to design reliable network systems. His Industry experience includes work at the Qualcomm Research, CA and at the Texas Instruments, TX. He holds 20+ patents and is the author of several publications related to 5G/Wi-Fi/Power Line Communications. He is also the recipient of the National Science Foundation award and the Young Engineering Fellowship from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

Michael McLaren, MBA | Head of Marketing and Operations

Michael is a cofounder and Head of Marketing and Operations at PHYTunes Inc. He received an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. from Rutgers University in Material Science. Before arriving at PHYTunes he was a VP of Sales at Nokia where he led teams selling Nokia Software solutions to AT&T. His expertise is in developing creative ways to build, market and sell technology solutions. He has worked in leadership positions in Engineering, Finance, Marketing and Sales and helps companies develop their go to market strategies. He has worked for companies including Corning, 3Com, Ascend, Alcatel-Lucent, Proquent (bought by Bytemobile), ASSIA and Nokia.

Dr. Ioannis Kanellakopoulos | Technology Strategy Consultant

Ioannis Kanellakopoulos, Ph.D., IEEE Fellow, is a co-founder of PHYTunes, and currently provides consulting services on technology and intellectual property strategy to the company. His consulting practice’s mission is to create for his clients a clear vision of the future of technology and a clear understanding of how technology patents apply to today’s and tomorrow’s technology products. The expert witness side of his practice focuses mainly on patent infringement and product liability cases involving telecommunications, automotive software systems, ADAS, and semi-autonomous vehicles. Dr. Kanellakopoulos was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at UCLA for 8 years, where he created a research program focused on adaptive control of nonlinear systems and its applications in automated vehicles; he then came to Silicon Valley where he founded and/or led startups in telecommunications, ADAS sensors, and audio electronics. He holds a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is an IEEE Fellow.

Dr. Al Hooshiari | Head of Product Management and Solution Testing

Dr. Al Hooshiari received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. His research interest was in mathematical modeling, optimization, and stochastics processes. Dr. Hooshiari has over 30 years of technology leadership experience in Telecommunications industry in Bellsouth Telecommunications, AT&T and two startups. During his industry tenure, Dr. Hooshiari has been the chief architect building Network and Management Systems for IP networks, high speed internet access, cloud computing and applications of machine learning and Blockchains in Telecommunications Networks. He has received over 11 AT&T and Bellsouth Excellence Awards, hold over 15 patents, as well as a certificate from Georgia Tech Management Institute for managing High Technology.

Raj Alur | Head of Business Development

Raj is a technology executive with venture capital, corporate strategy, M&A and product development expertise. He served as an executive at Mavenir, Brocade, Synchronoss, Deeya Energy, Lucent, Ascend and Stratus where he oversaw development, productization and marketing of cutting-edge technology products. He has closed over 12 M&A transactions and invested and served on the boards of over a dozen startups. He holds an MBA in finance, M.S. in Computer Science and a B.S./M.S. in Physics & CS from Cornell University, Boston University and Bombay University respectively.

Dan Acton | Head of Strategy and Partnerships

Daniel Acton runs the Public Sector Segment and heads up Global Partnerships for PHYTunes. Dan is an industry veteran with previous experience as a Senior Advisor to the U.S. Department of State, EVP at PRTM leading the Digital Transformation practice, CIO and CTO for Virgin Mobile USA, Partner with IBM Global Service and President and COO of LaserComm. He holds a B.S. in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a M.S. in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University and completed doctoral coursework in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Chansoo Hwang | Head of Engineering

Chan Hwang is the Head of Engineering at PHYTunes. Chan is a product development leader with expertise in both SW and HW engineering. He served as a VP of engineering at Samsung Electronics, the head of engineering at Tinoq, and a senior director at ASSIA where he led the engineering from the fundamental R&D stage to the large-scale deployment. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from KAIST and a Ph.D. from Stanford University, all in electrical engineering.

Ramin Noorani | Digital System Expert

Ramin is a Digital System Expert and FPGA engineer at PHYTunes. He received his master’s degree from Amirkabir University of Technology – Tehran Polytechnic in Electrical and Communication systems Engineering. His previous experience is implementing the physical layer algorithms on FPGA, including various types of Modulators, Demodulators, Channel Coding, Signal Detectors, DVB-S2 Standard. He currently works on implementing and developing 5G algorithms by RTL code on FPGA at PHYTunes.

Dr. John Cioffi | Chairman of Board

IEEE Fellow, Chairman and CEO of ASSIA, Prof Emeritus Stanford, Ph.D. Mr. Cioffi an American electrical engineer, educator and inventor who has made contributions in telecommunication system theory, specifically in coding theory and information theory. Best known as “the father of DSL,” Cioffi’s pioneering research was instrumental in making digital subscriber line (DSL) technology practical and has led to over 400 publications and more than 100 pending or issued patents, many of which are licensed.

Andy Tang, MBA | Board Member

Andy Tang is a Partner at Draper Associates and CEO of Draper University. Andy has 20 years of operating and early-stage investing experience in the high-technology space. His current portfolio includes: YeePay, CloudMedX, Atomwise, VeChain, Ledger, and Alto Beam, to name a few. Andy is also the founding member and Managing Director of the Draper Dragon Fund, a cross-border China/US early-stage investment fund. Andy holds a BSEE in engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, an MSEE in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He was awarded the Outstanding Young Engineering Graduate by The University of Texas, and he also holds a US patent for silicon-germanium thin-film transistor applications.
